What Do Cold Forging Presses Do?
Cold extrusion
The press forces the blank to flow into a new shape at room temperature: heading, upsetting, or backward and forward extrusion. Cold extrusion needs higher tonnage and a stiffer frame than coining, since metal is displaced rather than just sized.
Coining and sizing

Cold forging vs hot forging
Cold forging works the metal below its recrystallisation temperature: no furnace, tighter tolerances, and a better surface finish than hot forging. The trade-off is higher press tonnage for the same part size, since cold metal resists deformation more than heated metal.
